GLACIER SKIING/SNOWBOARDING
We are fortunate to have several of the world's most spectacular glaciers right outside our doorstep, from the classic Tasman Glacier, the secluded Murchison and Mannering (where the wind never seems to ruffle the snow) and the expansive vistas of the Fox and Franz Joseph Glacial Neves.
Most Glacier tours start with a flight by skiplane or helicopter*, landing at altitudes above 2000m and well inside the "white room". Basing out of one of the many high alpine huts the days are a mixture of gentle paced ascents and long swooping descents. Alpine instruction and mountaineering instruction can also be taught on these trips.
NON GLACIATED TOURING OPTIONS
Nestled just behind Twizel lies the Ben Ohau range. One of the country's premier touring locations for non glaciated terrain. Long rolling runs and fantastic camping (by tent or snowcave) make this a truly fulfilling self powered adventure. Experience the steep decent from the summit of Mackenzie peak, or challenge yourself and do the full traverse of the range. Helicopter access can be used to get into these areas, we can even arrange to start and/or finish your trip on horseback for that real Mackenzie Country feel.
